ARE YOU REALLY GIVING LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY?
You say you love “unconditionally” but have you ever TRULY examined what that is?!
The longer I’m alive I’ve noticed that people always have conditions. You may SAY you still love someone or something but if that someone or something doesn’t meet your needs, do what you feel is best, or goes against what you think is right, DO YOU TAKE SOME OF YOUR LOVE FROM THEM?? Maybe you get angry, criticize, don’t speak to them for awhile, whatever it is, some of your love is retracted. You take it back.
I know a lot of you will say “I don’t do that.” I’ve said the same thing.
I realized, That’s why everyone is so scared to be themselves! We have all these rules we must follow, expectations that must be met and if we don’t comply, then we are a ‘bad’ person. It’s in our religious views, it’s in our homes, it’s in our work, it’s in our society as a whole! We are not a good lover, friend, colleague if we don’t meet anothers expectations. We’ve been taught this. Our parents did it, their parents did it and our society has encouraged it. There weren’t ill intentions we ALL know our parents loved us and if you’re a parent you know you love your child BUT I’m sure you have expectations for them.
As a child, If you didn’t do certain things you knew there would be a loss of love from someone or something. Maybe those exact words weren’t in your head but I’m SURE you FELT it from the people around you.
I’m guilty. I want the ones I love to do what I suggest and when they haven’t I’ve definitely retracted my love on MANY occasions. I confess. I have NOT always loved unconditionally.
Now, this doesn’t mean you should keep people in your life that are bringing you down or unhealthy for you in any way. You don’t have to love up close. Loving from afar works just as well.
Some contemplation for you on this day…..ARE YOU REALLY LOVING UNCONDITIONALLY?
Can you love from a place of PURE acceptance and giving and release your expectations?
